Tourist Economy in Cracow

The presented article focuses on economic units operating on the tourist market. The article has been divided into two parts. In the first part the official sources of information on economic units operating in tourism have been presented. The scope and methods of compiled information have been evaluated and the own suggestions concerning collecting data have been presented. Basic information on travel agencies, selected from statistical records, have been verified with the use of a questionnaire sent via surveyors. In the second part the results of the research completed in private firms, joint ventures, stale owned companies, cooperative companies, that is, the economic units which provide service on commercial basis. The range of employment, the scope of activity, specialization, ownership structure have been presented, and above all, the initial data for further marketing research have been obtained.
