Leisure and Its Conditioning in the Opinion of Elementary School Pupils from Some Chosen Cracow Suburban Places
The changes taking place in Poland recently cause, among other things, some negative factors in the economic and social life. The economic pressure forces the majority of parents to look for overtime jobs. The
investigations confirm that it results in smaller control of the process of bringing the children up and decrease of interest in the proper ways of spending leisure by children and youth. This paper describes the results of the soundings which have been made in eight elementary schools situated in the suburbs of Cracow. The investigations show that the children from those social groups have, on the average, 3 to 4 hours of leisure. Majority of them spend their days free from school on helping with the housework, having a rest and learning. Riding bicycles, sports games and going walks are the most popular forms of activities. The investigation of watching television in the hierarchy of ways of spending free time. The inquired pupils point at the poor conditions of the cultural and sports facilities in the country which, connected with the low economic standard and the lack of positive parental example, considerably limits the possibility of choosing the proper ways of spending leisure by the village children.
