Yugoslavian Tourist — Relaxation Base and its Influence upon the Social, Economic and Settlement Differentiation of the Country

The subject of the paper are the considerations connected with Yugoslavian tourist management and its influence upon the demographic, economic and settlement modifications of the country. Tourist management of Yugoslavia in the post — war years was connected with the problem of activation of the weakly developed areas having great natural values and numerous monuments of the past. There was a rapid progress of accomodation base. In 1988 there were 1425287 beds at its disposal whereas in 1965 there were only 385409, so the increase was three times as large. The number of the second homes increased quintuple (from 42999 to 216204) in ten years (between 1971-1981). The main areas of tourist base concentration are first of all the seaside regions (73% of the accommodation base), furthermore partly the moun-taineous terrains situated on the lakes and big cities. The continental part of the country is weakly managed for the needs of tourism. The development of tourism caused the economic activation of the tourist areas and increased the people's income, gave employent to the previously unemployed ones and stopped emigration making some positive modification of the demographic structures. The rapid development of tourist base, especially the incoherent building of the second homes, to a certain degree disadvantageous^ influenced the settlement modifications.
