An attempt at depicting chosen elements of environmental structure and territorial setting of social system of Polish Spisz (Zips) The authors present a text comprising two distinct parts. The first one presenting theoretical consideration on elements of compound systems- particularly territorial social systems. The second one is an attempt at portraying important elements of the environmental structure and the territorial setting of Polish Spisz. Polish Spisz belongs to these few regions of our country which keeps its distinct individual character. Natural habitat as well as social and cultural character of the region underline this feature, rooted in its history. Thus the setting is definitely confined. Limited information and energy flow was mainly caused by natural, historical and psychological boundaries. However, an increased external influence and local activity have been noticed in recent few years. They result from work search outside the region. Region's availability becomes easier because of the denser network of roads. The construction of the Niedzica reservoir, a new (alien) factor, influences the profound alteration of environment in the state boundary region. So does the planned touristic activity. These two factors will be destructive for the setting. New relations and developments will occur distorting the already established system.
