Tourist activity of inhabitants of Stockholm as the example of such an activity for the whole population of Sweden (introductory research report)

Tlie results of the research have been presented in this article. They deal with the level, nature and condition of the tourist activity of dwellers of Stockholm and its environs. The interest of the author also extends to what determines this activity and these are: the amount and make-up of the leisure time, the social and economic standing, spendings on tourism, how households are equipped with the tourist gear, etc. A short characterization of Swedish tourism policy has been surveyed in the initial part of this work. Having found the traditional standards for stating the tourist activity {especially so called the rate of the tourist activity) as not too precise and leaving out many important factors of the activity (e.g. forms of tourism, frequency of outings, etc.) a new method was suggested. This takes into account four factors:
- a participation rate factor for each of every (12) listed forms of tourism (Wu),
- a compound participation rate factor for all forms of tourism (ZWu),
- an outing frequency factor for each of every form of tourism (We),
- a compound outing frequency factor for all forms of tourism (ZWc).
With the use of these factors the level and rnake-up of the examined individuals' tourist activity have been stated. Separately for the year 1989 and the years 1985—1988. The findings allow to draw the conclusion that the examined persons' participation in tourist activities is very intense. Short comparisons concerning the tourist activity of inhabitants of various countries, including Poland, have been made in the closing pages of this article. The presented results confirm the already published opinion that Sweden belongs to the leading countries as far as the tourist activity is concerned.
