Tourism in the activities of rural youth organizations
in Poland until 1939
The earliest circles of rural youth were established even before the World War I. During the interwar period there were a few nationwide unions of rural youth: the Central Union of Rural Youth, the Central Union of Rural Youth “Sowing” and the central Union of Young Village, Rural Youth Union, Rural Youth Union of the Republic of Poland “Wici” [Call to Arms]. Apart from them, there were also regional union organizations.
Tourism was one of the forms of activity of rural youth organizations. It had educational and tutelary advantages and it was a way of spending free time. Elements of tourism, like, for example, organizing excursions, are to be found in statutes and regulations and decisions concerning activities of circles and unions of rural youths. The press published by the rural youth organizations advertised and propagated tourism.
