Tourist activity inhibitors. Theoretical and methodological aspects of research of constraints and barriers on leisure travel participation The article presents selected study results carried out within the project Functional typology of tourist activity conditions and an attempt to create a model that elucidates this phenomenon. The main goals of this article are the following: analysis of causes of non-participation in tourist trips among Polish residents, presenting deficiencies in the methodologies previously employed, and proposing specific modifications regarding both methodology and terminology. The performed analyses were based on the annual studies carried out at Institute of Tourism (Instytut Turystyki) and Public Opinion Research Center (Centrum Badania Opinii Społecznej – CBOS), and irregularly at Principal Statistics Bureau (Główny Urząd Statystyczny). Studies carried out in 2005, pertaining to causes of non-participation in tourist trips have been thoroughly examined. The studies were based on a representative sample of Polish residents over the age of 15. Statistical analysis (cluster analysis, factor analysis, analysis of variance) were performed independently by the author utilizing a real-time data set, which was purchased at CBOS.
