European areas, rich in natural and cultural resources, have a major advantage in the world tourist market. Moreover there is an continuous attempt from European policy makers(at European, national and regional level) to stimulate tourism development. That is why tourism is nowadays one of the strongest economic sectors in the member states of the European Union. On the one hand the article is the study of impacts from tourist development and on the other hand it presents the European Union and Member States tourism policy. All tourist activities depend not only on the natural environment or improving the quality of tourist products, but also on the European Community's involvement in tourism, the law, regional policy, transport policy and many other factors. Another essential issue for tourism is the euro. Since the tourism sector is largely characterized by cross-boarder activities, it benefits greatly from the single currency. As far as contribution of tourism to economic growth is concerned there are many direct or indirect economic implications of tourism development. Tourism is seen as a major opportunity for job creation over the coming years, in particular in less developed and peripheral regions. There are also many socio-economic benefits of rural tourism. In spite of the fact that there is always the possibility of damages particularly in the case of environmentally sensitive areas, one should not overlook the advantages. In several European countries tourism has been promoted as ideal mean to combat economic decline and reverse the loss of population in rural or mountain areas. To sum up it should be mentioned that in many cases tourism has contributed to the development of strong, dynamic economy at national and regional level.
