Narrow-gauge railway as a factor of activation for tourist areas

In the article ,,Narrow — gauge railways as an activation factor of tourist regions" the authors discussed the need for promoting cultural attractions which are undoubtedly presented by old and often exploited narrow-gauge railways. This unique means of transport performed different functions in its history. Both geographical situation in different parts of Poland and location near important, however, often neglected in planning tours, historic and ethnographic buildings contribute to their cultural attractions. The present article constitutes a kind of a guide-book to chosen narrow-gauge railways which should be promoted and protected from their liguidation. In order to show all tourist aspects the authors presented a detailed description of not only scenic attractions but also regular narrow-gauge railways events. The following railways have been mentioned in the article: Gnieźnieńska, Grojecka, Mławska, Rogowska, Elcka, Górnośląska, Zninska, the Bieszczady Mountains and the only private railway in Poland, namely Wigierska Railway.
