The Significance of Mountain Guides in Environmental
Education
In this paper, the author discuses two main questions:
1) Are there any premises to admit that mountain guides can and ought to
play an important role in environmental education?
2) Does the system of training prepare mountain guides properly to fulfil
this task?
Considering: the principles of environmental education, the importance of mountain ecosystems, changes in mountain tourism and very special relationship between mountain guide and tourists; the author answers the first question affirmatively. Then, after analysing the present system of the mountain guides' training the author concludes that this system should be improved and proposes several tools to achieve it.
