Evolution of the Sudetic Guiding Model after 1945

A tourist guiding in the Sudetes came into being very early - as one of the firsts in Europe - in the second half of the 18th cent. Because of a significance of Polish visitors' presence, guides of a Polish origin were known on a Polish side of these mountains, like Jerzy Suchodolski (1785) or Walenty Grzata (ca. 1845). In 1817 a first professional guides' organization was established at Jelenia Gora as a first one in the World. It had 78 members in 1839. In the beginning of the 20th cent., the Sudetes - together with the Karkonosze (Giant Mts.) were equipped already in a dense net of shelters and trails, so guiding services were covering mainly individual visitors, families and little groups.
