Landscapes in Small Towns and Tourism -the SWOT Analysis

The paper represents author's research about tourism activation in small towns. The focus of author's interest is situation in Poland today, and in the nearest future. But also a situation in other post-communist countries of transformation in Central - East Europe is parallel, and needs similar solutions. Best examples can be studied in The West, but one shoud understand different conditions. Questions shown in the title above have been elaborated in scales as follow: international relations, the scale of the country, regions, local scale of municipalities, finaly urban - architectural scale of towns. Social conditions taken into account are: local inhabitants, investors - developers, tourists. Most influential mechanisms in this situations are: legislation, government and municipality, ownships concerning terrains and houses. Therefrom spatial results were analysed: historical values, recent best realisations, projects. All this package of factors is gently ordered and moderated by the SWOT analysis, exposing strong and weak sides of problem, then opportunities and threats in future. Final conclusion derived therefrom is a proposal for proper strategy of sustainable tourism activation of small towns. It is fruitful for everybody: local people, active bussines people, finaly for tourists. Last but not least it is a forecast for good future for our landscaps, both natural and cultural, including countrytowns.
