Monuments of Architecture as Sight-seeing Attraction. An Analysis of Some Selected Buildings in the Sącz Region. The subject of this article is an analysis of some chosen monuments of architecture in the Sącz region from the angle of their function as a sight-seeing attraction. The author makes an attempt at explaining the term of sight-seeing attraction, classifies tourist attractions treating the monuments of architecture as one of the components of sightseeing attraction of cultural treasures. The term sight-seeing attraction is used here in a broad sense of "spatial monumental structure". The author discusses the tourist function of monuments of architecture as a carrier of cognitive content, artistic and aesthetic values. He confronts the role some monuments of architecture in the Sącz region currently play along with their potential functions, which they may and should fulfil as a sight-seeing attraction. Taking into account such factors as historical and artistic value of buildings, their location in the landscape, their user, information and availability, the author examines the monuments of sacral (Catholic and Orthodox churches) and secular architecture. Such an analysis helped to conclude that the monuments of architecture are taken too a negligent care of by the provincial conservator of monuments, offices of the State's authority and administration, social or tourist organizations for the monuments to fulfil, without any objections, desirable functions as sight-seeing attractions. To improve the existing situation, the author suggests proper advertising of the monuments of architecture, supervising and assuring their users of help, striving after the most universal, transfer and rendering of the monuments of architecture available for tourism.
